Why we gather

On June 19, 1865, freedom finally reached Texas.

We come together to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and to honor the enduring promise of freedom. Juneteenth stands as a powerful symbol of liberation, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality — and a reminder that no person's dignity is anyone else's to grant or withhold.

A Single Human Family

We belong to one another. The Jamboree is a place where neighbors of every background gather — not as strangers, not as guests, but as kin in a city we share.

The Dignity of Every Person

The work of freedom is unfinished wherever a person's worth is measured by anything less than their humanity. We celebrate the women, men, and children who refused to be made small — and we keep refusing.

Real Economic Empowerment

Liberation is not only legal — it is economic, cultural, generational. JUICE — Juneteenth Urban Initiative Creating Economic-Empowerment — turns a day of celebration into year-round momentum for Black-owned businesses and the youth who will inherit them.

The Whole Person, the Whole People

Authentic progress means food on the table and music in the street; good work and good rest; a child who is safe and a future that is open. We hold all of it together, because that is what a community is.

Memory as Foundation

We remember Galveston in 1865. We remember the names that history tried to forget. We remember those who built this celebration before us — and we carry it forward.

A Neighborhood that Shows Up

North Minneapolis remembers who shows up. We do — for one another, on ordinary Tuesdays and on the loudest, brightest day of the year on West Broadway.

In honor of Michelle Gibson

Last year we gathered in honor of Michelle Gibson — the creator of the biggest Juneteenth celebration in Minnesota. She is no longer with us in person, but she is here in spirit, and we carry her legacy forward. Over 5,000 of you joined us. This year, we expect a much bigger turnout — and we'd love your help making the impact match the moment.
